Why Hire A Book Publicist?
Thanks for the questions! We hope we have answered them all...1. Is it necessary to hire an outside book publicist?
With so much competition in the book market, your book needs to stand out and publicity is an important factor in selling books-as any other part of becoming an author and publishing a book. Media representatives prefer to deal with professional publicists and it is easier for someone else to promote you and your book rather than authors calling the media for their own promotion. Although your publisher will assist in promoting your book, the extra help of having a dedicated publicist working your books will be appreciated.
2. Why can't my publisher handle all the book promotions?
Publishers have a staff of publicists, but many times they are busy promoting their other author titles. If you want great results - have one person dedicated to your book. Your publicist will capitalize on every media opportunity for your book and nothing can take the place of an experienced media expert who is focused on your project.
3. Is there a time when I don't need my own publicist?
For the most part no. Even most best-selling authors maintain their own publicists. That's how they became successful.
4. What is the most important question to ask a publicist?
Do you think that you can get publicity for my book? Publicists do not want to spend countless hours trying to get publicity for a book that they feel does not have media potential. Have a publicist take a look at your books and assess them. Depending on the book - it may or may not work well with media.
5. How can I help my publicist do a good job?
Keep in touch with your publicist on a weekly basis. Let your publicist know your ideas, or if there is an event or newsworthy story that relates to your book. Remember, publicists are experts at media, not your subject or industry.
